Recipe for a livable planet.
The World Bank's 'Recipe for a Livable Planet' introduces the first global strategy for reducing agri-food system emissions, emphasising the potential to cut nearly one-third of global emissions while maintaining food security. This approach underscores the significant contribution of the agri-food sector to climate change, responsible for approximately 16 gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, mainly from developing countries. The framework calls for mitigation efforts in both high-income and developing nations and advocates for a comprehensive food systems approach to address emissions from value chains and land use changes. Furthermore, it highlights the role of high-income countries in reducing emissions by promoting renewable energy, providing financial aid to lower-income nations, and influencing consumer demand for lower-emission foods.
