C.J. Bean & Sons.
With over a century of farming heritage, C.J. Bean & Sons have been farming since 1900. Starting out with fruit sold in London markets during the 1940s and 50s, they transitioned to growing vegetables in the 1960s, supplying local wholesalers and Sainsbury’s. By the 1980s, they were back at London markets, and since 2008, they've been proudly transporting their fresh produce using their own lorries.
Sustainability is at the heart of their operations. From reducing waste with returnable packaging to using fleece on half their crops, they minimise chemical inputs wherever possible. Their water conservation techniques, including boom irrigation and night watering, ensure efficient usage. Benefiting from a unique coastal microclimate, they grow cauliflower year-round, alongside winter brassicas like cabbage, kale, and sprouts. Potatoes and onions are stored on-site to maintain a consistent, fresh supply throughout the year.
